Company description: MRS MRS - Modifiable Representation System. An integration of logic programming into Lisp. ["A Modifiable Representation System", M. Genesereth et al, HPP 80-22, CS Dept Stanford U 1980]. Technology Inc. was founded for the express purpose of developing large area microlithographic equipment for the volume production of active matrix liquid crystal display liquid crystal display (LCD) Optoelectronic device used in displays for watches, calculators, notebook computers, and other electronic devices. Current passed through specific portions of the liquid crystal solution causes the crystals to align, blocking the passage of light. (AMLCD (Active Matrix LCD) See active matrix. ) screens. AMLDCs are the visual display screens used in today's most advanced color laptop and notebook computers, camcorder viewfinders and miniature color televisions, as well as a host of other sophisticated products. Incorporated in 1986, MRS has been involved since that time in the development, manufacture and distribution of their breakthrough microlithography system, the PanelPrinter (tm), which is designed specifically to mass produce AMLCD efficiently. As one of only three manufacturers of projection microlithography systems for large-area AMLCD production, MRS has captured a significant portion of a growing market. MRS derives revenue from two sources: sales of the PanelPrinter, and from contract research with commercial customers and governmental agencies interested in fostering the development of flat panel display A thin display screen for computer and TV usage. The first flat panels appeared on laptop computers in the mid-1980s, and the LCD technology became the standard. Stand-alone LCD screens became available for desktop computers in the mid-1990s and exceeded sales of CRTs for the first time (FPD (1) (Flat Panel Display) See LCD, plasma display, EL display, FED and flat panel display.
