Company description: Founded in 1953 by Minnesotans Dick Hammel and Curt Green, Bruce Abrahamson joined the following year, and Hammel Green and Abrahamson Inc. (HGA) gained a solid footing for their innovative designs of educational facilities.

Since that time, the practice has thrived, adding cultural facilities, retail centers, and sports venues to its realm of expertise. In the last 15 years, HGA has participated in an unrivaled number of Minnesota-based projects, including the Mall of America, Minnesota History Center, Science Museum of Minnesota, renovations of the Orpheum Theater, The Saint Paul Hotel, and most recently, the capital's new Civic Center.

Forty-three years after its founding, a new era begins for HGA with several national projects under construction, including a large-format theater at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C., a new performing arts complex at Florida State University and a revolutionary new healthcare facility at the University of California at Davis.

"This is an exciting time," says Chief Executive Officer Daniel Avchen. "I've had the good fortune to see our business grow, evolve dramatically; and through it all, the legacy and mission of our founders has remained intact -- to provide the highest quality design and engineering services in a very personal way."
