In 1992, the company adopted a twofold strategy to direct internally generated cash at growing its base domestic assets, while directing the balance sheet cash primarily toward international opportunities. The short term objective being to generate a significant growth in assets by means of exploratory drilling, with a longer term goal of increasing cash flow and earnings.

The company has met its short term goals with seven new field discoveries in the offshore U.S. gulf coast; major discoveries on the Qarun Block, Egypt and CI-11 Block, Ivory Coast; and development of the Onbysk Field in Tatarstan, Russia. Additional potential rests with two new Egyptian concessions (East Beni Suef Beni Suef (bĕ`– swāf) or Bani Suwayf (bä`nē), city (1986 pop. 152,476), capital of Beni Suef governorate, N central Egypt, on the Nile River.  and Darag blocks), a second block in the Ivory Coast, CI-12 and two new field developments in Tatarstan, Russia (Demkinsk and Suncheleevsky fields).
