Company description:

The Association of Shareware Professionals See ASP.  is an international trade organization representing more than 1,500 authors, publishers, vendors and online distributors of shareware Software on the "honor system." The concept is that users try a product, and if they like it, they voluntarily pay a set registration fee or make a donation to the program's creator. There are tens of thousands of shareware programs; some fantastic, some awful. .

Shareware is commercial software consumers can try before they buy. Shareware can be found on bulletin board systems (BBSes), commercial online services, and through computer user groups.

The ASP was founded in 1987 for five reasons:

1) To inform computer users about shareware programs and

shareware as a way to market and distribute software;

2) To encourage broader distribution of shareware through user

groups and disk dealers who agree to identify and explain the

shareware concept;

3) To assist ASP members in marketing their software.

4) To provide a forum for ASP members to communicate, share

ideas and learn; and

5) To foster a high degree of professionalism among shareware

authors by setting programming, marketing and support standards.

The ASP sponsors forums on two online services, CompuServe (GO ASPFORUM) and Microsoft Network See MSN.

Microsoft Network - The Microsoft Network
 (GO ASP). These forums offer news and information on ASP developments and provide consumers further information about shareware in general and specific programs. ASP also publishes quarterly a CD-ROM CD-ROM: see compact disc.
CD-ROM
 in full compact disc read-only memory

Type of computer storage medium that is read optically (e.g., by a laser).
 with the latest shareware programs from its author members.
