Arctic Cat snowmobiles were first produced in the 1960s. Since then, Arctco has continued to develop and build snowmobiles and other innovative recreational vehicles from its home base in Thief River The Thief River is a tributary of the Red Lake River in northwestern Minnesota in the United States. Via the Red Lake River, the Red River of the North, Lake Winnipeg and the Nelson River, it is part of the watershed of Hudson Bay.  Falls, Minn.

In 1983, the company went public.

Arctco's growth has been impressive. Fiscal 1995 sales were $367 million, an 18 percent increase. For 1995, net earnings were over $33 million. Arctco's latest 52-week high/low stock price was 14 1/2 and 9 1/4.

Arctco employs 1,600 people at two manufacturing facilities -- the main plant in Thief River Falls and a molding and painting facility in Madison, S.D. Arctco recently completed a $5 million overhaul of its 500,000 square foot in Thief River Falls facility.

In 1993, Arctco entered the personal watercraft business with its Tigershark models.

In 1996 Arctco introduced its first ATV (1) (Advanced TV) An early name for the digital TV standard proposed by the Advisory Committee on Advanced Television Service (ACATS). See ACATS. See also ATV Forum.
