Coronado Industries Inc. Announces Results of Study; Pneumatic Trabeculoplasty Procedure Effective in Treating Ocular Hypertension.

Coronado Industries Inc. (OTC BB:CDIK) (www.coronadoindustries.com) Monday announced the findings of its study, which reveals that its pneumatic trabeculoplasty (PNT(TM)) procedure helps in the fight against ocular hypertension.

At Arizona Glaucoma Institute, owned by Coronado's wholly owned subsidiary American Glaucoma, evaluation of approximately two years of data from a recently concluded study of 190 patients receiving pneumatic trabeculoplasty has shown that the procedure, originally designed to treat Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG), pigmentary glaucoma and glaucoma associated with pseudoexfoliation of the lens capsule, is of value in treating "ocular hypertension" as well.

According to the New England Journal of Medicine, the incidence of ocular hypertension is much higher than the incidence of glaucoma. Ocular hypertension is present in 13 percent of the general population and its prevalence increases with age. Glaucoma is a progressive disease that is the second leading cause of blindness.

A study by Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, which points out the urgent need for improved methods of screening and therapy for glaucoma, estimates that approximately 66.8 million people in the world will suffer from primary glaucoma by the year 2000.

Ocular hypertension (OH), defined as intraocular pressures in excess of 22 mg Hg and not associated with ocular damage and/or visual loss, occurs in approximately 13 percent of the U.S. population and is a risk factor for later development of POAG. It has been estimated that approximately 30 percent of patients with OH will go on to develop POAG during the patient's lifetime.

PNT, which lowers intraocular pressure (IOP), is a non-invasive procedure, which has been shown to be safe and effective in treating both OH and POAG. Since visual loss associated with POAG occurs after prolonged exposure to elevated IOP, any method that lowers the IOP below pretreatment levels could reduce the number of eyes destined to develop POAG and possible blindness.

Coronado Industries, through its two wholly owned subsidiaries American Glaucoma and Ophthalmic International, manufactures devices to treat forms of glaucoma and operates facilities that offer glaucoma diagnosis and treatment under FDA pre-market approval. Pending FDA approval, Coronado will license its patented treatment procedure and equipment in the United States.
