400G system. Corning confirmed that it is currently shipping amplifiers and other products to Lucent for the WaveStar(TM) 400G system and that the corresponding agreement with Lucent announced in February of 1998 remains intact. The company also said that it is expanding its manufacturing capacity to meet growing demand for its optical amplifiers from Lucent and other customers worldwide.

Commenting on the rumors, Gerry Fine, vice president and general manager of Corning's Photonic Technologies Division, said, "Reports that we are no longer supplying optical amplifiers for the WaveStar 400G system are unfounded. We have been a leading supplier of dense WDM (1) (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) A technology that uses multiple lasers and transmits several wavelengths of light (lambdas) simultaneously over a single optical fiber.  amplifiers to Lucent since 1995, are the world's leading supplier of DWDM (Dense WDM) The term given to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) when significantly more channels were being added. Since WDM is increasingly more "dense" all the time, both terms are used synonymously. See WDM.
