Corning Pharmaceutical Services Inc. Acquires Health Technology Associates, Inc.; Acquisition is Latest in Corning's Expansion into Global Healthcare Services Market.

CORNING, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 1996--Corning Pharmaceutical Services Inc. (CPS), a subsidiary of Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW), today announced it has purchased Health Technology Associates, Inc. (HTA), a company that specializes in helping biopharmaceutical firms more rapidly develop products and market them more effectively.

Terms were not disclosed.

HTA (the new company will be named Corning HTA), has provided strategic reimbursement and outcomes services to more than 400 companies in the health care industry since 1988. The company had been privately held.

Based in Washington, D.C., HTA has approximately 100 employees and is comprised of four divisions:

- The Reimbursement Planning Division (RPD) specializes in strategic reimbursement analysis and market planning for new devices, diagnostics, and pharmaceuticals.

- Medical Technology Hotlines (MTH), offers sales training, reimbursement telephone hotlines, indigent care programs, and other client support services for medical product manufacturers.

- The Outcomes Studies Group (OSG) performs economic analyses and quality-of-life studies, and evaluates disease management programs.

- The Quality Assessment and Improvement Services (QAIS) Division designs systems for assessing quality care and outcomes in the clinical setting, develops practice guidelines, implements disease management programs, and helps customers link billing and clinical data sets for the purposes of evaluating outcomes.

According to Christopher A. Kuebler, president of Corning Pharmaceutical Services, "The addition of Corning HTA will improve CPS' ability to develop drugs rapidly and obtain global approvals for new biopharmaceutical products.
