Corning Introduces Photonic Fibers Optimized for Small Form-Factor Packaging and Fused Biconic Taper Couplers.Business & Technology Editors NFOEC NFOEC National Fiber Optical Engineer Conference NFOEC National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference 2002 booth #633 CORNING, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 2002 Corning Incorporated Corning Incorporated NYSE: GLW is an American manufacturer of glass, ceramics and related materials, primarily for industrial and scientific applications. The company was known until 1989 as Corning Glass Works. (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange :GLW GLW Glasgow Airport (UK) GLW Gross Laden Weight GLW Good Lady Wife (Australia) ) today introduced a suite of reduced clad and bend insensitive photonic fibers that address industry-wide demand for miniaturized components. Corning's portfolio of PureMode(TM) Reduced Clad (RC) Photonic Fibers now includes 80-micron cladding diameter for high index, erbium-doped, single-mode and polarization maintaining fibers. Reducing the cladding diameter enables Corning customers to reduce the package size in next generation couplers, compact optical modules, and small form factor EDFAs by 30 to 40 percent. Manufactured with Corning's patented outside vapor deposition process, and based on decades of experience in 80-micron fiber development, PureMode RC Photonic Fibers set the industry standard for consistent, precise geometry specifications. Corning is committed to providing world-class reliability support for handling and deployment of 80-micron fiber and offers technical support for splicing splicing /splic·ing/ (spli´sing) 1. the attachment of individual DNA molecules to each other, as in the production of chimeric genes. 2. RNA s. to 125-micron fibers. Corning is also introducing a newly designed bend insensitive fiber. The PureMode HI 1060 FLEX Photonic Fiber is re-engineered for fused biconic taper (FBT FBT Fringe Benefit Tax FBT Flyback Transformer FBT Fused Biconic Taper (fiber optic connector) FBT Floridians for Better Transportation FBT Fire Boat FBT Functional Board Test FBT Feedback Technology FBT Fruit Basket Turnover ) component manufacturing and all bend sensitive applications in C-and L-band applications. Combining ultra low bending loss with low excess loss and excellent spliceability, PureMode HI 1060 FLEX enables higher yields in the production of premium grade components.
