Corning will invest several hundred million dollars in the new facility, which will be located about 17 miles east of Charlotte and 10 miles southeast of Concord near the community of Midland, North Carolina The town of Midland is located in southern Cabarrus County in North Carolina, USA, in the south-central portion of the state, in the region known as the Piedmont. The name of the town is derived from its location approximately one-half way between Charlotte and Oakboro on the . Construction is expected to begin in early 1997, with initial production scheduled for 1999.
