) said today it has received a ruling from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS An abbreviation for the Internal Revenue Service, a federal agency charged with the responsibility of administering and enforcing internal revenue laws. ) for a tax-free distribution to Corning shareholders of shares in two new independent companies: Corning Clinical Laboratories Inc. and Covance Inc. (formerly Corning Pharmaceutical Services Inc.)

As previously reported, the company believes it is on track for a year-end completion of the transaction.
