to school districts across the nation to begin retrofitting diesel-powered school buses with emissions control equipment. Over 500,000 school buses must be converted to clean diesel. This represents a significant market opportunity for Corning's diesel emissions control technology.

"We commend Senator Clinton and Congressman Walsh for their leadership in launching the school bus initiative," said Thomas R. Hinman, division vice president and general manager, Diesel Technologies. The funding provided under this program will allow school districts to begin converting school buses to clean diesel technology.

Hinman said, "The enactment of this program clearly establishes a role for the federal government in helping local school districts install the necessary equipment in their buses to protect children from the harmful effects of diesel exhaust. This is good public policy. It is also good for Corning because it enhances the commercial viability of Corning's diesel control technology that will be a critical part of the company's future."
