Corning Elects Roger G. Ackerman Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer; Garrity Elected President of Corning Technologies; Loose Elected President of Corning Communications.


CORNING, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25--Corning Incorporated's Board of Directors today elected Roger G. Ackerman, 57, chairman of the board and chief executive officer. Ackerman succeeds James R. Houghton James R. Houghton is the Retired Chairman of the Board of Corning Incorporated. Houghton has Bachelor of Arts and master of business administration degrees from Harvard University (A.B., 1958, MBA, 1962). , who retired today as chairman and chief executive officer after 13 years as chairman of the board.

Van C. Campbell, 57, continues as vice chairman of Corning Incorporated Corning Incorporated NYSE: GLW is an American manufacturer of glass, ceramics and related materials, primarily for industrial and scientific applications. The company was known until 1989 as Corning Glass Works.  and chairman of Corning Life Sciences Incorporated.

Also elected today: Norman E. Garrity, president of Corning Technologies; and John W. Loose, president of Corning Communications.

Corning Technologies sector is comprised of Corning Consumer Products Company, Optical Products, Environmental Products, Lighting and Materials, and Science Products. Corning Communications sector is comprised of the company's Telecommunications Products Division, Siecor Corporation, Opto-Electronics Components, Corning Ashai Video Products Company, Advanced Display Products, and Projection Television Lens Assemblies.

Mr. Ackerman started his career with Corning in 1962 as an engineer in the company's research laboratories. He has served in various top-management positions, including president of Corhart Refractories Co., senior vice president and general manager of Corning Ceramics, and senior vice president and director of Corning's Manufacturing and Engineering Division.

In 1983, Mr. Ackerman was appointed president and chief executive officer of MetPath Inc., Corning's clinical lab subsidiary. He was named Group President of Corning Incorporated in 1985 and in 1990 became president and chief operating officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

In 1984, Mr. Garrity was named general manager of the Electrical Products Division and subsequently named vice president. In 1986, he was named senior vice president of Manufacturing and Engineering- Specialty Materials Group and in 1990, became executive vice president-Specialty Materials Group.

Mr. Loose, 54, joined Corning in 1964 and through 1985 held a variety of sales and marketing management positions in the Consumer Products Division. In 1986, he was named vice president and general manager-Asia Pacific and in 1988, named vice president-International, Corning Incorporated, and president and chief executive officer of Corning Asahi Video Products Company. In 1990, he was named executive vice president Information Display Group. Most recently he served as executive vice president of Corning Incorporated and, since 1993, as president and chief executive officer of Corning Consumer Products Company.
