Cornell University Selects Informix for "Project 2000"; Data Warehousing Project Will Enable University to Track and Analyze Trends.

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 11, 1996--Informix Software, Inc., (NASDAQ: IFMX) the leading provider of innovative database technology, today announced that Cornell University (body, education) Cornell University - A US Ivy League University founded in 1868 by businessman Ezra Cornell and respected scholar Andrew Dickson White. Cornell includes thirteen colleges and schools. On the Ithaca campus are the seven undergraduate units and four graduate and professional units. The Medical College and the Graduate School of Medical Sciences are in New York City. Cornell has 13,300 undergraduates and 6,200 graduate and professional students. has selected INFORMIX(R)-OnLine Dynamic Server(TM) as its core database for "Project 2000," a university-wide reengineering effort that will decrease the cost of administration and increase information access and service to the university's community of 30,000 students and faculty members.

Cornell's campus-wide administration systems -- including human resources/payroll, finance, student information, sponsored programs, and alumni/development -- will run on an Informix database and PeopleSoft's application software, increasing access to information and eliminating duplication of efforts.

A data warehouse project will facilitate access to data and enable more complex queries and richer reports, improving service and increasing the university's business. Deans and senior administrators will be able to track trends such as the relationship between acceptance rates and the influence of financial aid packages offered to applicants. The university will be able to analyze trends in class registrations, and adjust course offerings accordingly.

Cornell will connect its campus-wide information systems to their Informix database. Cornell's information systems are on the World Wide Web at http://www.cornell.com and includes such data as class schedules, events listings, and alumni information.

"Cornell made a strategic decision to use relational database technology very broadly in order to reinvent its administration practices and serve students as a "best managed university," said Helen Mohrman, director of administration systems and distributed technologies at Cornell University. "We needed a scalable database to support multiple functions and deliver valuable information to students and faculty. Informix, through its industry-leading technology and close partnership with PeopleSoft, puts valuable information in users' hands."
