Cork pinks up for gay Olympics.

CORK is to hold a gay Olympics Gay Olympics refers to the originally named Gay Olympics held in San Francisco in 1982 under the leadership of Tom Waddell. The organizers were sued by the Olympic committee to prohibit future use of the world olympic so that event was renamed the Gay Games.  finishing off with a "mince marathon", it was revealed yesterday.

Cork Gay Project's David Roche said the sporting event would be teamed with the city's gay pride parade A gay pride parade or LGBT pride parade is part of a festival or ceremony held by the LGBT community of a city to commemorate the struggle for LGBT rights and pride.  on May 28.

Mr Roche said: "Basically we have taken some of the more popular Olympics events and queered them up!

"We will have the high-heeled dash, the handbag discus discus /dis·cus/ (dis´kus) pl. dis´ci   [L.] disk.

"There will also be a football match between the men and women, and we hope to have a lot of fun!"

Mr Roche, the group's community development manager, promised the day's events would be a colourful affair.

He said: "This project is largely about fun, but it is also about awareness of the struggle for gay rights. People forget that it was illegal to be gay in Ireland only 13 years ago."
