Corgenix Receives Second U.S. Patent on AtherOx(TM) Technology.

U.S. Patent Office Grants Patent # 7,160,733 for Technology Used in Corgenix Next-Generation Predictive Cardiovascular Diagnostic Product Line

DENVER -- Corgenix Medical Corporation (OTCBB: CONX), a worldwide developer and marketer of diagnostic test kits, has received notification of U.S. Patent Office approval for technology to which Corgenix holds exclusive worldwide licensing rights outside of Japan. The technology is incorporated in the Company's AtherOx[TM] product group, a next-generation technology to identify individuals at risk for developing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

US Patent # 7,160,733 was issued January 9, 2007. The patent, Ligand Specific to [eth]2-glycoprotein I and Use Thereof, describes in detail the chemical structures and the interaction of oxidized LDL with [eth]2-glycoprotein I to form particularly damaging complexes. A laboratory test method for detecting oxLDL/[eth]2-glycoprotein I complexes and antibodies to these complexes were also described for diagnosing arterial thrombosis as seen in atherosclerotic disease.

The new patent supplements a previous US patent (# 5,900,359 issued May 4, 1999, Method for Determination of Oxidized Lipoproteins and Use Thereof). The original patent described the method by which a specific interaction of [eth]2-glycoprotein I with the oxidized form of low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) leads to the formation of oxLDL/[eth]2-glycoprotein I complexes. This interaction does not occur with the native or non-oxidized form of LDL. A laboratory test method for the detection of the complexes was described in the patent which provides the basis for the Corgenix AtherOx[TM] product group.
