Corex Technologies Named 39th Fastest-Growing Private Company in America.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 1999--

Corex Technologies Corporation, developer of the award-winning CardScan business card scanning solution, has been named the 39th fastest growing company in the country by Inc. magazine, which today released its annual ranking of the Inc. 500, the comprehensive guide to America's fastest-growing private companies.

The Inc. 500, published on October 15th, is an exclusive report on private companies and CEOs who are changing the face of American business. Corex is honored to join such noteworthy Inc. 500 alumni as Microsoft, Timberland, Dominos Pizza and Patagonia.

The recognition by Inc. magazine follows on the heels of Corex's announcement in late September that it was named as the 11th fastest-growing high technology company in New England New England, name applied to the region comprising six states of the NE United States—Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The region is thought to have been so named by Capt.  by Deloitte & Touche and Hale and Dorr. The company's revenues have grown by more than 3,000 percent during the last five years, which was the determining factor in both awards.

"Corex's position in the top 50 of the Inc. 500 is a direct result of the dedication and single-minded focus of our employees," said Jonathan Stern, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Corex. "This prestigious honor, combined with our presence on the NE Fast 50 list, signals that the marketplace is responding to CardScan as the best means to transform paper business cards into useable electronic data. Business cards are now the only medium that contains all of the different ways that people can be contacted whether that be via email, mobile phone, or pager. For this reason business cards themselves will continue to grow in significance as a business tool, and as Corex helps customers get this important contact data into their PC, PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) A handheld computer for managing contacts, appointments and tasks. It typically includes a name and address database, calendar, to-do list and note taker, which are the functions in a personal information manager (see PIM). , mobile phone or wherever they need it - we expect our business to continue to grow."

Cambridge based Corex contributed to earning Massachusetts a tie with Virginia for third place, behind California and Texas, for the state with the most companies named to the Inc. 500. As in past years, computer-related companies dominate the rankings, (46 percent of 500), a 10% increase from the 1998 rankings.

This marks the 18th year that Inc. has charted the progress of America's most innovative and successful entrepreneurs. To be eligible for the Inc. 500, companies have to be independent and privately held through 1998, have at least $200,000 in sales in the base year, 1994, and their 1998 sales must have exceeded their 1997 sales. The ranking is based on the percentage increase in sales from 1994 through 1998. Holding companies, regulated banks and regulated utilities are not eligible. Inc. verified all information using tax forms and financial statements from certified public accountants Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
