Corel Open Source Printing Library to Add Value to Open

Source Printing Project On SourceForge(tm)

Corel Corporation (company) Corel Corporation - A software publisher best known for the CorelDraw application. Founded in June 1985 by Dr. Michael Cowpland, Corel Corporation was originally a systems integration company.  (NASDAQ:CORL) (TSE:COR) today announced it has agreed to host the development of its open source application print services library on VA Linux Systems' SourceForge(tm), the world's largest open source development center. The project will add value to the existing Open Source Printing Project already underway on SourceForge at http://printing.sourceforge.net.

"By working with VA Linux Systems and the open source community, we are helping to make advanced printing on Linux a simple point-and-click process," said Dr. Michael Cowpland Michael Cowpland (born April 23, 1943) is a Canadian entrepreneur, businessman, and the founder and one-time president, chairman and CEO of Corel, a Canadian software company.

Cowpland was born in Bexhill, Sussex, England and obtained a BSc.
, president and chief executive officer of Corel Corporation. "We look forward to working alongside VA Linux Systems and the greater open source community as we pursue the exciting development of printing capabilities on Linux."

"The addition of Corel's application print services library to the Open Source Printing Project on SourceForge is one more example of the momentum behind SourceForge as the leading Open Source development center," said Dr. Larry M. Augustin, founder, president and chief executive office of VA Linux Systems. "The contributions of companies such as Corel are helping to develop a truly open, uniform printing infrastructure for all Linux and open source printing."

Corel has considerable expertise in the development of desktop printing solutions and has recently had great success in perfecting the printing experience for both amateurs and professionals using CorelDRAW(r) and WordPerfect(r). Corel has leveraged its printing expertise to develop a printing library which enables applications running on Linux(r) to easily "talk" to printers.

The application print services library is designed to bring together existing Linux printing components while making way for future developments. Applications built on this technology will be able to provide their users with easier access to all the features of their printers, more control of the documents they print and easier printer administration.

The home page for the library is available at opensource.corel.com, Corel's developer Web site, under the LGPL (Lesser GPL) See GNU General Public License.  licence.
