Corel Licenses Bitstream's TrueDoc Technology; Font Fidelity Empowers Corel PRESENTS 6 Users.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 14, 1995--Windows desktop publishers can now create and distribute electronic documents with the confidence that their recipients can accurately view and output all fonts in the document -- regardless of the fonts' styles or formats.

Bitstream Inc. announced today that Corel Corporation (company) Corel Corporation - A software publisher best known for the CorelDraw application. Founded in June 1985 by Dr. Michael Cowpland, Corel Corporation was originally a systems integration company. , whose 92 percent marketshare dominates the Windows graphics market, has licensed Bitstream(R) TrueDoc(TM) 2.0 Imaging Technology for potential use across the Corel product line. Part of the CorelDRAW(TM) 6 suite, Corel PRESENTS(TM) 6 will be the first Corel product to benefit from TrueDoc Technology's ability to display all typefaces in distributed electronic documents without embedding or synthesizing fonts. Corel PRESENTS 6, CorelDRAW(TM) 6 and Corel PHOTO-PAINT Corel PHOTO-PAINT is a raster graphics editor created by Corel. The current version is Corel PHOTO-PAINT X3 (13). It is not sold by itself, but instead included with CorelDRAW (CorelDRAW Graphics Suite). Its main uses are image manipulation and creation of web graphics. (TM) 6 are among the 14 applications and utilities included in the CorelDRAW 6 suite.

"Corel and Bitstream have a common goal: to make communication more effective," said Dr. Michael Cowpland Michael Cowpland (born April 23, 1943) is a Canadian entrepreneur, businessman, and the founder and one-time president, chairman and CEO of Corel, a Canadian software company.

Cowpland was born in Bexhill, Sussex, England and obtained a BSc.
, president and chief executive officer of Corel Corporation. "By investigating all of the competing technologies, we have determined that TrueDoc is the best so we would like to give our customers the opportunity to utilize this excellent technology."

TrueDoc promotes creative presentation in Corel PRESENTS 6

TrueDoc will initially be integrated into the CorelPRESENTS- Runtime Player, a utility that plays back business and multimedia presentations created in Corel PRESENTS 6. The Corel PRESENTS Runtime-Player, with TrueDoc seamlessly built in, assures users that all fonts in Corel PRESENTS 6 presentations will be accurately reproduced at any resolution on any computer. Presenters often transfer their presentations to offsite computers minutes before they are expected to deliver a presentation. Using the Corel PRESENTS Runtime-Player, presenters can be confident that their audience will accurately view every font, including foreign characters (double-byte), ornate fonts and dingbats -- regardless of the machine displaying the presentation. A presenter does not have to think about what fonts will be available on remote systems displaying the presentation, allowing the focus to be solely on the content and desired effect.

The Bitstream-Corel agreement gives the entire Corel product line, including Corel VENTURA A Windows desktop publishing program from Corel. It is a full-featured program suited for producing books and other long documents and includes several graphics functions from CorelDRAW. Corel VENTURA was formerly Ventura Publisher, developed by a company that was later acquired by Xerox.  and CorelDRAW, the opportunity to incorporate TrueDoc to resolve all font issues. Corel's preeminence in the Windows graphics market means that as more Corel products integrate TrueDoc, the entire Windows desktop publishing desktop publishing, system for producing printed materials that consists of a personal computer or computer workstation, a high-resolution printer (usually a laser printer), and a computer program that allows the user to select from a variety of type fonts and sizes,  environment can achieve complete font fidelity.
