Corechange's Coreport 3g Supports More Than 10 Million Portal Users Through Its Unique and Intelligent Architechture.

Business/Technology Editors

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 2001

Scalability Test Conducted at the Microsoft Testing Center

Demonstrates Coreport's Ability to Support Global-Scale Portal Sites

Corechange, Inc., a provider of e-access framework software, today announced significant test results that demonstrate the high linear scalability and availability of its Coreport 3g(TM) technology, enabling companies to deploy global-scale portals. The tests conclusively prove Coreport's ability to support deployments of more than 10 million portal users, resulting from its unmatched, distributed architecture. Corechange is the first in the portal industry to produce scalability test results that establish meaningful configuration guidelines for customers.

"Companies seeking to deploy portal software Portal Software was founded in 1985 as Portal Information Network, one of the first ISPs in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was founded by John Little. The company offered its own interface through modem access that featured Internet email.  across the enterprise should seek highly scalable offerings that can increase capacity as needed as needed prn. See prn order. . The Corechange demonstration gives evidence for its commitment to deliver a highly scalable portal," said Brian McDonough, research manager, Knowledge Management Software and Intranet Strategies, IDC.

A joint Microsoft-Corechange team conducted the scalability tests at the Microsoft Testing Center in Waltham, Massachusetts One of the early centers of the Industrial Revolution in northern America, Waltham is a city in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 59,226 at the 2000 census. . The tests focused on the logon operation, by far the most overhead intensive request that a user makes in the Coreport environment. Because Coreport intelligently disburses load to the client side, very little additional load is placed on the Coreport server to service portal users once they have logged on.

Key findings from the tests show that:

-- Coreport can easily sustain 20,000 logons per hour on a four-processor system configuration and a single Active Directory domain controller.

-- Coreport scales across additional processors and servers at an almost perfectly linear rate.

-- The scalability of Coreport is limited only by the practical cost of adding and maintaining servers.

-- Corechange customers can "right-size" their initial configuration, then grow in small, less expensive increments using cost-effective commodity servers as their user base increases.

"Based on these results, we have established configuration guidelines to support up to 10 million portal users in business-to-employee, business-to-business, and business-to-consumer contexts," said Felimy Greene, executive vice president for product development at Corechange. "Coreport provides completely stateless Refers to software that does not keep track of configuration settings, transaction information or any other data for the next session. When a program "does not maintain state" (is stateless) or when the infrastructure of a system prevents a program from maintaining state, it cannot take , dynamic load-balancing that requires no server affinity, yielding high scalability in a web farm environment. Coreport is also unique in its tight integration and native use of Active Directory, which eliminates any need for costly directory synchronization."

The performance tests were conducted with Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Active Directory and Internet Information Service (IIS (Internet Information Services) Microsoft's Web server. IIS runs under the server versions of Windows, adding HTTP server capability to the Windows operating system. ) as they were installed, with no special tuning. In addition to very high scalability, the dynamically load balanced environment created with Windows Load Balancing Service also results in high availability since the failure of a single server leaves site availability unaffected.

"The product's intelligent, distributed architecture enables it to deliver unprecedented scalability and availability. Furthermore, our complete confidence in the test results enables us to use them to make meaningful, substantive system sizing recommendations to customers who need to deploy portals on a global scale."
