Corcoran Group reports busy third quarter for Hamptons home sales.


The Hamptons home sales market was busier than usual during the third quarter, with nearly a hundred more closings this year than for the same three-month period in 2002.

"While there was a modest slowdown in activity at the most expensive end of the market, the good news is sales activity is healthy overall and getting stronger, and high-end buyers have definitely returned to the marketplace, asserted Corcoran Group Vice President Judi Desiderio.

Citing other current strongholds, Ms. Desiderio pointed to Shelter Island Shelter Island (1990 pop. 1,193), 7 mi (11.2 km) long and 6 mi (9.7 km) wide, between the two peninsulas of E Long Island, SE N.Y. "Best of all, as the economy continues to gain momentum, buying real estate in the Hamptons will be an increasingly attractive option for growing numbers of consumers and investors alike," asserted Ms. Desiderio, who added that she expected a "very strong market this coming season."
