The relationship between Corbis and the DIA was facilitated by Hal Opperman, Corbis' general editor of fine arts, who said, "Digital images are not a substitute for experiencing original works of art, any more than a color slide or postcard might be. We are looking forward to working closely with the DIA in building a new kind of resource for visual communication."

Selected images are added to the Corbis archive using high-quality scanning and imaging technologies. The images are then stored and distributed with rights and usage guidelines, captioning and crediting requirements, and other cataloging information to provide efficient management of and access to the materials in the archive.
