, one-of-a-kind photographs of space, science and technology. The collection has been purchased by Corbis and will continue to exist as a separate division of Corbis, providing film-based pictures for creative professionals just as it has done in the past under the name Starlight Photo Agency. In addition, the images soon will be available in digital format through Corbis Media, the licensing division of Corbis.

The Starlight Collection is a 20-year compilation of stunning photographs. These images capture moments of history in the making and provide a look at technology from Ressmeyer's dramatic, award-winning perspective. Starlight's entire array of exceptional content is now available from Corbis, including photographs of famous observatories, international space programs, volcanoes, earthquake sites and the most advanced technologies.

Corbis sees the purchase of the Starlight Collection as an opportunity to expand and enhance the archive. "This acquisition represents a major step forward in meeting Corbis' goal of building the most comprehensive and unique digital-content archive in the world," said Doug Rowan rowan

This announcement follows Ressmeyer's acceptance of a position as an editor with the media-development division of Corbis. In his new role, he will help Corbis expand the archive as well as define the company's role and strategy in the photographic industry. More specifically, he will lead Corbis' efforts to license work from professional photographers and other providers of science and technology imagery.

Over the years, Ressmeyer has been a prolific contributor to National Geographic magazine The National Geographic Magazine, later shortened to National Geographic, is the official journal of the National Geographic Society. It published its first issue in 1888, just nine months after the Society itself was founded. ; his images also have appeared in dozens of other major publications including Life, Time, Newsweek, People and Discover. Ressmeyer began his career as a portrait and lifestyle photographer, creating thousands of photographs of famous personalities. Many of these portraits are available through the Starlight Collection.

"Corbis is leading our industry into the 21st century, and I believe that it has demonstrated a dedication to helping photographers flourish in the digital era," said Ressmeyer. "I see my new assignment as an opportunity to help other photographers and creative professionals step into the digital world. And as part of the Corbis Archive, the Starlight Collection will be even more widely available and appreciated. I am thrilled that Starlight's clients will continue to be served in a manner consistent with my vision."
