Corbis' The Living Lens Brings Exclusive, Historic Prints to San Francisco; Fine Art and Technology Join Forces at Metreon--A Sony Entertainment Center.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 30, 2000

For the first time, Bay Area residents will get an up-close look at some of the great photographic images that helped define the 20th century as Corbis (www.corbis.com) unveils the exclusive Living Lens exhibit at Metreon--A Sony Entertainment Center in San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  on March 30.

The Living Lens is a limited series of 75 handpicked and restored photos from Corbis' historic Bettmann Archive The Bettmann Archive is a collection of 11 million photographs and images, some going back to the United States Civil War and including some of the best known U.S. historic images. The Archive also includes many images from Europe and elsewhere. . Only 250 prints of each of the black-and-white and sepia-toned photos have been created, each numbered and signed.

The Living Lens will reside on the ground floor at Metreon though May. Visitors can view all the photos, learn more about them, and purchase the rare prints at the exhibit or at www.corbis.com.

The classic Bettmann images featured in the exhibit date from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. Each print is a unique work of art created from meticulously restored negatives, and printed on specially selected photographic papers. Master darkroom darkroom,

For the exhibit, six-foot blowups of selected Living Lens images will also be hung in Metreon windows.
