Coraid and RDS Release Windows Support for AoE Protocol, High-Performance, Low-Cost Alternative to iSCSI.

SAN CLEMENTE San Clemente (săn klĭmĕn`tē), city (1990 pop. 41,100), Orange co., S Calif., on the Pacific coast; inc. 1928. Camp Pendleton, a large U.S. marine base, adjoins the city, which is chiefly residential. , Calif. -- Coraid Inc. and Rocket Division Software Inc. (RDS (1) (Remote Data Services) A set of programming interfaces from Microsoft that enables users to update data on the Internet or intranets from their ActiveX-enabled browser. ) today announced the release of Windows support for the open ATA-over-Ethernet (AoE) disk storage protocol. AoE delivers a simple, high-performance, low-cost alternative to iSCSI for networked block storage by eliminating the processing overhead of TCP/IP TCP/IP

.

The new AoE Windows driver works with 32/64 bit Windows 2000, XP and Server 2003 systems, and provides a simple user interface to mount disks on the network. RDS has added the AoE Windows Driver to its well-recognized iSCSI software products. AoE gives Windows users the ability to directly access disks on the network as if they were locally attached Refers to disks, printers and other peripheral devices that are connected directly to a computer via USB or FireWire. Such devices may be designed for desktop use or portability. For example, a locally-attached, stationary hard drive may weigh three to five pounds, while one made for  - providing the benefits of storage area networking at a fraction of the cost of a typical Fibre Channel or iSCSI SAN.

RDS was amazed at how simple the AoE protocol implementation was compared to the development of its Windows iSCSI client driver. "We are able to offer excellent performance without a heavy processing load on the Windows client system. This is a big advantage for any network storage protocol," stated Anton Kolomyeytsev, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Rocket Division Software.

The Windows driver is now available for download from RDS at www.rocketdivision.com. RDS is one of several companies developing products that use the open AoE open storage protocol created by Coraid.

"AoE has been native in Linux systems for some time now and we are happy to see that Windows users can now take advantage of the simplicity and efficiency of AoE storage products," said James Kemp James Kemp may refer to several people:

Coraid manufactures a line of AoE disk storage products that deliver unlimited networked storage capacity at a cost of less than $1.25/Gigabyte ($1,250/Terabyte, including disk cost).
