moderator for three educational sessions on the
emerging Information Technology discipline of Web
Operations and on the emerging real-user monitoring
technology category. Real-user monitoring represents a
significant improvement in the way IT teams approach
problem recognition and resolution in production Web
environments by watching 100 percent of real-user
interactions and recording problems with forensic
                detail.

                The sessions include:

-- Application Networks: A Work in Progress (May 2,
                10:15 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.) -- As networks shift from
forwarding packets to forwarding messages, who decides
how these messages get handled? Will the network of
tomorrow make business decisions the way networks
today handle routing? Or will networks simply forward
packets and leave the processing to the servers?

-- Watch What Matters: A Blueprint for Effective
Monitoring Up and Down the Stack (May 2, 11:30 a.m. -
                12:30 p.m.) -- From low-level traffic flows to
                application-fluent monitoring, there are literally
hundreds of technologies that can give you insight
into your network. This session will simplify the
decision-making process by providing a simple taxonomy
of monitoring solutions, as well as examples of each
type of solution, that combines device monitoring,
synthetic testing, and real-user traffic analysis.

             -- Web Ops Summit (May 3, 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.) -- Look in any
modern data center or a mission-critical NOC and
you'll find a new breed of operations specialist
that's both Web-savvy and network-fluent. The Web Ops
Summit brings together technology leaders and hands-on
web experts for a half-day of updates and
                thought-provoking discussion.

Croll is a prolific writer and speaker in the
