(b) Copyrights: the existing Copyright Act came into force September 1, 1993 accepted principles of the Berne convention, and covers a wide range of works, including books, music, broadcasts, computer programs, and databases. In May 1998, amendments to further update the law were submitted to parliament;

(c) Trademarks: a draft of the amended Trademark Law was also submitted to the parliament in May 1998;

(d) Trade secrets/semiconductor chip layout design: a draft law was submitted to parliament in May 1998 for consideration. Currently, there is no statute which covers trade secrets or semiconductor chip layout design. However, some aspects of protection for semiconductor chips are incorporated in the copyright law. Jamaica follows common law principles; breaches may be dealt with either through court order or by filing damages;
