Cops on skis? At the Police Winter Olympics in Tahoe.

You may have seen police officers in a fast downhill pursuit before, but not on skis. The Police Winter Olympics, held to raise money for the Officers Emergency Relief Fund, brings together 570 competitors. It's free to watch, so if you're nearby for skiing you might want do drop by.

Each day from 9:30 to 4 you can watch alpine slalom races, nordic team relays, and a pistol-shooting/racing biathlon.

The games run January 27 through 30 at Alpine Meadows for the downhill events, at Tahoe Nordic for the cross-country events. At Alpine Meadows you need a lift ticket to reach the course.

To reach Alpine Meadows from Interstate 80, take State Highway 89 south 10 miles, then turn right on Alpine Meadows Road. To reach Tahoe Nordic from Tahoe City, take State Highway 28 east 3 miles and follow signs.
