Sources said the two children, Radha Mishra ( 9) and Munna ( 12), were roaming around near a car in the Sector 11 area around 2 pm on Saturday.

The car's owner, private builder Kamal Kant Tyagi who undertakes contracts for the Noida Authority, had parked the vehicle and headed to the market nearby to purchase some material. On return, the builder found his bag that was lying on the back seat missing.

The police allegedly took Radha and Munna to the Jhundpura police post in Sector 11 where they reportedly beat the two children with a belt. The police then went on to tie their hands with a rope and hung them from the ceiling fan inside the police post.

A few locals approached the police after some time to inform them that the builder's bag had been found -- it actually turned out that the bag had fallen into the foot space between the front and rear seats.

The two boys were subsequently released at 7.30 pm.

They suffered injuries on their backs and legs.

Jhundpura police post incharge Lokendra Pal Singh denied the boys had been tortured.
