CopperCom and Calix Join Forces to Promote H.248-Based Networking Solutions; Leaders in the Next-Gen Networking Team Up to Bring Value to Wireline Service Providers.

 announced today that they have agreed to work on the implementation, interoperability and delivery of H.248 access and switching solutions to meet the unique needs of wireline service providers deploying next-generation communications services. The companies will work closely on the interoperability of H.248 broadband service See broadband and broadband service provider.  signaling on their respective products to ensure seamless interworking (standard) interworking - Systems or components, possibly from different origins, working together to perform some task. Interworking depends crucially on standards to define the interfaces between the components.  for customers deploying next-generation networks.

Calix and CopperCom are a natural fit, with Calix leading in ultra-broadband fiber and copper-access solutions and CopperCom leading in next-generation soft switching solutions. Both companies share a common customer set and vision -- delivering the highest value switch-based services over the most advanced broadband infrastructure.

H.248 is a standard protocol supported by the International Telecommunications Union See ITU.

 (VoIP) services. By cooperating on the interoperability of H.248 solutions on their respective platforms, Calix and CopperCom ensure that customers deploying either platform have a seamless path to the future for broadband services.
