Copper Mountain Endorses TollBridge's Voice of Broadband Alliance

to Enable End-to-End Voice-Over-DSL Service Deployments

The two companies are partnering in the context of TollBridge's Voice of Broadband Alliance, a leadership initiative also announced today that is designed to accelerate large-scale voice-over-broadband deployments by promoting interoperability The capability of two or more hardware devices or two or more software routines to work harmoniously together. For example, in an Ethernet network, display adapters, hubs, switches and routers from different vendors must conform to the Ethernet standard and interoperate with each other.  and standardization standardization

The partnership assures carriers and service providers that the TollBridge TB200 carrier-grade Local Exchange Gateway, Copper Mountain CopperEdge(R) DSL concentrators, and customer premise equipment (CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) Communications equipment that resides on the customer's premises.

To ensure interoperability, CPE partners in the Alliance can test their products at TollBridge's interoperability lab in an end-to-end configuration with the TollBridge TB200 gateway and CopperEdge DSL concentrator.

The Alliance gives carriers and service providers access not only to a broad range of interoperable The ability for one system to communicate or work with another. "Voice-over-DSL is fast becoming a reality thanks to interoperability initiatives that combine best-of-breed DSL concentrators, voice gateways and voice CPE," said Bryan Long, vice president of marketing at Copper Mountain.

"TollBridge's Voice of Broadband Alliance provides a road map for carriers and service providers, helping them plan their purchases for a complete VoDSL solution."

"TollBridge created the Voice of Broadband Alliance to ensure that prospective customers can successfully deploy end-to-end voice-over-DSL services," said Gary Tauss, co-founder, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of TollBridge. "The participation of Copper Mountain, which dominates the business DSL market, is a key ingredient in the success of the Alliance."

VoDSL Market Poised for Growth

The VoDSL market in the U.S. is expected to expand rapidly during the coming year. Cahners In-Stat Group predicts that service revenues will grow from $47 million in 1999 to $1.17 billion in 2000, while the number of subscribers will increase from 2,400 to 61,000. By 2003, the Group expects service revenues will reach $9.2 billion and subscribers will total 670,400.

"By certifying the interoperability of network components, the Voice of Broadband Alliance interoperability program will help promote standardization among broadband equipment vendors," said John G. Metz, executive vice president of Sterling Research, Inc.

"By ensuring that its TollVoice technology and Copper Mountain's DSL concentrators are compatible with a wide variety of CPE, TollBridge is making it easy for carriers and service providers to implement VoDSL service."

Alliance Complements CopperVIP Initiative

Copper Mountain's membership in the Voice of Broadband Alliance is complementary to its CopperVIP(TM) -- or Voice In Packets(TM) -- Initiative announced in June of 1999.

Copper Mountain's CopperVIP program gives service providers and subscribers access to a broad range of innovative, competitively priced, VoDSL devices for converged services including CPE, Integrated Access Devices An IAD is a customer premises device that provides access to wide area networks and the Internet. Specifically, it aggregates multiple channels of information including voice and data across a single shared access link to a carrier or service provider PoP (Point of Presence).  (IADs) and Integrated Communications Platforms (ICPs), and voice gateways from Copper Mountain's voice partners, including TollBridge.

The CopperVIP program is designed to ensure interoperability between these industry leading broadband network components and Copper Mountain's widely deployed CopperEdge family of DSL concentrators and CopperView(TM) network management software suite.
