Copper Mountain Networks, Inc., (Nasdaq:CMTN) today announced that the company and its CopperCompatible(tm) and CopperVIP(tm) (Voice in Packets) partners dominate Infonetics' list of vendors from which Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs) and Network Service Providers (NSPs) plan to buy Digital Subscriber Line See DSL.

Copper Mountain shared the top spot with Lucent Technologies on the list of preferred DSL CO equipment vendors; each was ranked as preferred provider by 25 percent of respondents. Under the terms of a multi-year OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  agreement, Lucent co-brands and markets Copper Mountain's full suite of DSL equipment, including its CopperEdge(R) family of DSL concentrators, CopperView(tm) network management tools and CopperRocket(tm) DSL access devices for end users

"Our survey of facilities-based CLECs that offer data services indicates that Copper Mountain, and its partner Lucent, are the top choices for CLEC DSL equipment for COs," said Michael Howard

Copper Mountain and partners in its CopperCompatible and CopperVIP interoperability initiatives also made a strong showing in the DSL CPE category, accounting for six of the 19 manufacturers listed. Lucent topped the DSL CPE category with 30 percent, while both Copper Mountain and Netopia, Inc. were selected by 15 percent of respondents.

Other CopperCompatible and CopperVIP partners named in the Infonetics survey include FlowPoint Corporation, 3Com Corporation, and JetStream Communications, Inc.

Interoperability Initiative Enhances Strong Showing

The strong showing by Copper Mountain and its partners in the Infonetics survey is due in part to the company's CopperCompatible and CopperVIP (voice in packets) CPE interoperability initiatives. Copper Mountain developed these programs to formalize testing and certification of a wide variety of customer premise devices with Copper Mountain's CopperEdge DSL concentrators and CopperView network management software.

These interoperability programs assure telecommunications carriers, Internet Service Providers Internet service provider (ISP)

By providing more innovation than any single vendor could on its own, Copper Mountain's interoperability programs assure service providers and DSL users of multiple competitive sources for compatible equipment.

"The fact that Copper Mountain's DSL technology dominates Infonetics' survey is a tribute to the quality and reliability of our DSL products," said Diana Helfrich, vice president of marketing communications Marketing communications (or marcom) are messages and related media used to communicate with a market. The Infonetics survey follows two other surveys by analyst firms Dataquest (July 12, 1999) and Dell'Oro Group (May 24, 1999) that ranked Copper Mountain number one in business DSL ports shipped. Business DSL encompasses both symmetric DSL (SDSL See DSL.
