As part of the process of reaching full commercial availability status, the VantEdge was recently certified for compliance with the Network Equipment Building System (NEBS) Level 3 standards, as well as other CE Mark, CSA (1) (Canadian Standards Association, Toronto, Ontario, www.csa.ca) A standards-defining organization founded in 1919. It is involved in many industries, including electronics, communications and information technology. , and FCC (1) (Federal Communications Commission, Washington, DC, www.fcc.gov) The U.S. government agency that regulates interstate and international communications including wire, cable, radio, TV and satellite. The FCC was created under the U.S.  standards necessary for global deployment. The NEBS standards were developed to qualify equipment for deployment in telephone company central office buildings. By meeting the highest level of the NEBS standards, the VantEdge is suitable for deployment over the widest set of conditions. To achieve NEBS Level 3 compliance, the VantEdge successfully passed a series of demanding tests in which the VantEdge operated under a variety of environmental extremes, including fire, corrosion, air temperature/humidity/pressure, and simulated major earthquakes.

The VantEdge is the industry's first carrier-class platform purpose built for the central office (CO) to address broadband service providers' two most critical issues -- scalability and profitability. It supports multi-layer CO intelligence -- CO IQ(TM) -- that enables copper-based broadband providers to slash costs associated with scaling their networks while simultaneously enabling the low-cost delivery of value-added services such as virtual private networks (VPNs), toll-quality voice, multi-tiered data and gaming services, and video. The VantEdge is a flexible platform--optimized for both aggregation and subscriber termination--offering service providers rapid payback, typically less than twelve months.

"Even in this difficult telecommunications climate, we continue to see an urgency to improve existing broadband access networks among ILECs, IXCs, and PTTs worldwide," said Rick Gilbert, president and chief executive officer of Copper Mountain Networks. "We are pleased to be the first to market with a critical new building block that allows these networks to scale profitably and enables a wide range of broadband services."

"We have found no other CO-based product that can match the VantEdge's combination of performance, flexibility, and networking capabilities," said Keith Higgins Keith Higgins is a Gaelic football player for Mayo. He plays his club football for Ballyhaunis. In 2006, he was award the Young Player of the year. He is currently injured and ruled out of the 2007 championship.[1] , vice president of marketing for Copper Mountain Networks. "Bringing significant innovation to the central office differentiates us from incumbent equipment manufacturers, and being commercially available coupled with our track record of building carrier-class solutions differentiates us from everyone else."

About the VantEdge(TM) Broadband Services Concentrator

Purpose-built for the CO, Copper Mountain's NEBS Level 3-compliant VantEdge Broadband Services Concentrator offers a high-performance platform with 130 Gbps of switching capacity and support for more than 80 subtending ports and up to 1,824 subscriber ports per chassis. The VantEdge offers a unique architecture with port- and queue-level simultaneous coordination of packets and cells, enabling highly cost-effective delivery of both IP and non-IP services and ensuring the largest possible addressable Reachable. When something is addressable, it can be identified and manipulated independently of its surroundings. For example, screen pixels and RAM memory are addressable. Each of the screen's picture elements can be individually turned on and off, and each of the memory's bytes can be  market for broadband service providers An ISP, telephone company, cable company or other carrier that offers high-speed communications to homes and businesses, typically for Internet access. Contrast with "transparent," which implies that there is no discernible change after installation.  and interoperability with other vendors' DSLAMs, ATM switches, Layer-3 switches, and routers, the VantEdge cost-effectively addresses key scalability limitations of existing network architectures and enables their evolution to support new value-added services. With a broad set of IP, PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) The most popular method for transporting IP packets over a serial link between the user and the ISP. Developed in 1994 by the IETF and superseding the SLIP protocol, PPP establishes the session between the user's computer and the ISP using , ATM, and Ethernet-based networking capabilities, the VantEdge simultaneously enables several types of subscriber aggregation and dramatically improves scalability. The VantEdge's auto-sensing and auto-provisioning capabilities enable providers to minimize the costs of adding subscribers, provisioning services and changing subscriber profiles. The VantEdge is commercially available in two form factors, including a 23" version and a 19" ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute, Sophia Antipolis technical park, Nice, France, www.etsi.org) A non-profit membership organization founded in 1988, dedicated to standardizing information and communication technologies (ICT) throughout Europe.  version.
