Coors to open world's first "brewery in a ballpark".


GOLDEN, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 13, 1994--Coors Brewing Co. announced Tuesday that it has an agreement in principle with the Colorado Rockies For the National Hockey League team (1976 – 1982), now known as the New Jersey Devils, see .
The Colorado Rockies are a Major League Baseball team based in Denver, Colorado. They are in the West Division of the National League.
 to build the world's first "brewery in a ballpark."

"We're excited about this unprecedented opportunity to bring together the finest baseball and the finest beer in the world," said Peter Coors, chief executive officer, Coors. "This is a one-of-a-kind brewery that baseball fans will be able to experience nowhere else."

, will be in the Coors Field complex, the new home of the Colorado Rockies. Located in the former Student Movers building just off right field at 22nd and Blake Streets in Denver, The SandLot will brew a full spectrum of specialty beers - from ale to stout.

"The brewery's name, The SandLot, taps into the roots of so many baseball fans who began their love affair with the game in their own neighborhood sandlots," said Coors. "It's a name that is synonymous with synonymous with

The current agreement in principle between Coors and the Colorado Rockies allows Coors to brew beer at the ballpark. The SandLot beers will be available at concessions within the Coors Field complex.

Construction for the 1,700 square-foot brewery is scheduled to be completed by Major League Baseball's 1995 Opening Day.

With a brewing capacity of 4,000-barrels per year, The SandLot Brewery will have its own on-site brewmaster brew·mas·ter

Coors is not new to the specialty beer business. Its specialty/import division, UniBev Ltd., introduced brews for spring, summer and fall in 1994, in response to the tremendous success of Coors' traditional holiday brew, Winterfest. In doing so, Coors became the first major brewing company to provide a full seasonal offering.

He was born in Narberth, Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Wesleyan University. , owner of Denver's Wynkoop Brewery and known locally as a maestro of microbreweries, applauds Coors' new venture.
