Coors has record sales in New York, New Jersey

Coors Brewing Co. recently announced record sales for Coors products in New York and New Jersey.

Coors and Coors Light beers became available to local consumers in 1987. The Coors Extra Gold brand was introduced in 1988 and Keystone and Keystone Light beers in 1989. Coors, Coors Light and Coors Extra gold all posted record sales in 1989.

"Response to Coors products has been far better than planned," according to Kevin McDonough, eastern region sales director, Coors. "Within this two-state area, consumer demand for Coors beers is greater than any other premium brand entry in the last 10 years."

Coors also experienced record sales in states surrounding the New York/New Jersey area, including Delaware and Pennsylvania. Sales increases in the Keystone State were by far the highest of any state in the country.

Local Coors distributors cited the tremendous popularity of Coors Light and renewed interest in domestic brews as two of the chief reasons for the sales increases.

"In my 25 years as a beer wholesaler, I've seen many new products, but none like the introduction of Coors Light," said Charles Kramer, president, Kramer Beverage in Pleasantville, NJ. "With continued growth in the light category, I'm certain Coors products will show increased sales again in 1990."

"It was a slow start," said Coors' Niagara Falls distributor Peter Certo, "but we've seen a consistent growth trend that has elevated Coors sales over what I think everyone expected. And, the trend looks like it's going to continue in the same direction for quite a while."

Those states leading the pack in Coors sales increases were: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California, Arizona, Florida and Ohio.
