Coors announces further cutbacks

Fifty people in the construction department of Coors Brewing Co. on Thursday were laid off, officials said.

The company said the layoffs were needed because of the recent completion of a key building project.

It affects about 10 percent of Coors Brewing's in-house construction crew.

Heidi Buehler-Nogues, a company spokesperson, said the laid-off workers are subject to recall if construction at the brewery complex picks up again.

Last month, Coors Brewing said it trimmed about 60 white-collar jobs and last week, Golden Technologies Co., which is another unit of the Adolph Coors Co., said it was eliminating 33 jobs.
