The mark eclipsed the previous record by 1 hour, 21 minutes and 14 seconds minutes. The old record, set in 1992, was 32 hours, 49 minutes, 3 seconds.

The Concorde traveled at speeds up to 1,350 miles per hour at altitudes of 60,000 feet in order to break the official Guinness Book record. After taking off from JFK slightly before noon Tuesday, Aug. 15, the jet made six refueling stops in its bolt around the globe, including Toulouse, France; Dubai, United Arab Emirates United Arab Emirates, federation of sheikhdoms (2005 est. pop. 2,563,000), c.30,000 sq mi (77,700 sq km), SE Arabia, on the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. ; Bangkok, Thailand; Guam; Honolulu; and Acapulco, Mexico. The total distance traveled was 25,488 miles, with an average speed of 1,088 miles per hour.

Forty-eight of the 76 passengers on board won their seats in a unique Coors Light sweepstakes. A total of 98 people were on board, including several flight crews and emergency medical personnel.
