Coors Donates to National Hispanic American Education Fund.

Celebrity Liz Torres Keynotes Coors Hispanic Employee Network's 16(th )Annual Scholarship Fiesta

GOLDEN, Colo. -- Coors Brewing Company presented a $10,000 donation to the National Hispanic American Education Fund (NHAEF) today at the Golden brewery. Actress, comedienne and philanthropist Liz Torres accepted the donation for NHAEF during a special appearance as the keynote speaker of the Coors Hispanic Employee Network's (CHEN) 16th Annual Scholarship Fiesta.

"Education is the key to advancing leadership in the Hispanic community," said Torres, who sits on the National Advisory Council for the NHAEF. "With financial support from companies like Coors, the Hispanic community has made huge strides in creating opportunities for leadership development."

Coors' donation will support the NHAEF's efforts to fund educational programs and create education opportunities for Hispanic Americans. The donation is part of Coors' Lideres (Leaders) campaign launched in 2006 which acknowledges and highlights the accomplishments of the Hispanic community's numerous great leaders.

"Liz Torres' professional accomplishments and her commitment to the NHAEF make her an inspiring role model for us all," said Rafael Fantauzzi, director of Hispanic corporate relations for Coors Brewing Company. "Coors is proud to do our part to promote education and leadership in the Hispanic community."

At CHEN's 16th Annual Scholarship Fiesta, 10 students received $2,000 scholarships and one student was selected for the Kyle Velasquez Triumphant Spirit Award, an additional $1,000 scholarship.

"CHEN recognizes that education is the future of the Hispanic community," said Derek Garcia, president of CHEN and maintenance process improvement planner for the Rocky Mountain Bottle Company - Coors Glass. "The scholarships help students who are committed to the Hispanic community achieve their dreams through education."

Eligible students have been accepted to an accredited college or university, maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average and are of Hispanic heritage and/or actively involved in the Hispanic community. Students must fulfill 10 hours of community service during the year of funding.

2007 CHEN/LAEF Scholarship Recipients

Amy Albers, the daughter of Jan Albers (Coors Packaging), will be a junior at the University of Northern Colorado and is majoring in pre-nursing. Academically, Amy has achieved recognition in UNC's Next Scholar's program for exemplary GPA, Honors in Earth Science and the Dean's list. She has volunteered to work with the Race for the Cure and the Sam Sandos gift basket event.

Evie Cooper, the daughter of John Cooper (Coors Access Control), is a graduate of the School for Dental Assisting at Warren Tech and is attending CU at Denver Health and Sciences Center for Pre-Dental. Evie has participated in the Sam Sandos Christmas Basket event, held the role of a Vacation Bible School leader and supervised and taught sixth grade students at Outdoor Lab.

Jessica Estrada received a certificate in Graphic Design from the Community College of Denver and will attend the Art Institute of Colorado this fall to pursue a career in graphic design. Jessica volunteers to support the Signing Snow Day sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Deaf School, and taught sign language at the Colorado Registry of Interpreters and Aspen Camp.

Johanna Garcia will attend CSU this fall where she will pursue an education in Business and Art. Her ultimate goal is to own an art studio or gallery. Jessica volunteers at a home for people that are memory impaired; she is also involved with school events that provide safe activities for children and decorates and fills food boxes for the needy during the holidays.

Sarah Garcia, the daughter of Roseann Escher (Coors Legal), will be a senior at CSU majoring in Microbiology. Currently, she is in the pre-med club on campus and she works in a research lab. Sarah is a volunteer for the Poudre Valley Health Systems Emergency Room, Little Shop of Physics, National Family Volunteer Day and Sam Sandos Christmas Food Baskets.

Dorcas (Dee) Kimata, the daughter of John Kimata (Coors), will attend Creighton University to study pre-law. She was involved in the International Baccalaureate program at Lakewood High, the National Honor Society, a Tribute to Black Youth Scholarship program and she received a nomination to Who's Who Among American High School students. She is on the basketball, tennis and track teams, volunteers at her church and tutors non-English speaking students.

Roxanne Marcum, the daughter of Tim Marcum (Coors Packaging), will be a junior at Metro State College where she studies Biology. She volunteers for the Sam Sandos Christmas Basket Drive, volunteers at the Butterfly Pavilion and most recently, was a greeter at the 2007 LAEF Gala. She is the primary caregiver for her handicapped brother.

Victoria Maez, a senior at Metropolitan State College of Denver, is working on a major in Philosophy and minor in Psychology. Victoria has taken several mission trips with her church where she helped build medical clinics. Victoria is an accomplished musician and has played in the worship band at her church for several years. She has also volunteered for community events that include the Denver Rescue Mission, Samaritan's Purse and Young Musicians of America.

Serina Montoya, the daughter of Joseph Montoya (Coors elevator maintenance), earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Denver in 2006 and will pursue a Master's degree in social work this fall. She is a residential counselor for the Mental Health Center of Denver and volunteers in the Volunteers in Partnership Program (VIP) at the University of Denver.

Lorenzo Roybal will attend Colorado Christian University in the fall and plans to study ministry. He was captain of the Chaparral High School Varsity Baseball team during his senior year and a leader of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Additionally, he volunteers in baseball camps for children during the summers and helps special needs children in a handicapped bowling league.
