: BNYN BNYN ePresence (stock symbol; formerly known as Banyan) ), and Software.com, Inc., the leading provider of Internet messaging server software, announced today a new, multi-year joint development and licensing agreement under which the two companies will work to make the highly regarded StreetTalk directory technology the directory standard for intranets.

In addition, Banyan, through its Coordinate.com division, has made a minority equity investment in Software.com. The announcement was made here today at the Technologic Partners Network Outlook Conference.

Coordinate.com has licensed StreetTalk to Software.com, which will integrate the directory into Post.Office and InterMail, the industry's leading, standards-based messaging products. The combined products will create the most scaleable and robust messaging server available for any client software that adheres to Internet-standard protocols, including Post Office Protocol (POP 3) and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (protocol) Lightweight Directory Access Protocol - (LDAP) A protocol for accessing on-line directory services.

LDAP was defined by the IETF in order to encourage adoption of X.500 directories.

As part of the agreement, which significantly expands a partnership announced earlier this year, both companies will sell the StreetTalk-enhanced versions of Post.Office and InterMail. These products will ship later this year.

Coordinate.com and Banyan's Enterprise Networking The networking infrastructure in a large enterprise with multiple computer systems and networks of different types is extraordinarily complex. Due to the myriad of interfaces that are required, much of what goes on has little to do with the real data processing of the payroll and orders.  Division will be major distribution partners for Software.com products. Coordinate.com will couple Software.com's messaging products with its award-winning BeyondMail client software, offering its customers a complete intranet messaging solution that provides enterprise-level functionality with complete adherence to intranet standards.

"This agreement, which builds upon the recent merger between Software.com and Accordance Corporation, gives Software.com a leadership role as the enterprise messaging provider for intranets, offering scaleable messaging servers and directory services for entry-level systems up to the largest Internet service providers Internet service provider (ISP)

"Software.com and Coordinate.com will share in creating and establishing StreetTalk as the directory standard for intranets."

"We are excited by the rapid expansion of our partnership with Software.com, which demonstrates our commitment to extend all of our core technologies to intranets," said John M. Paul, senior vice president of Coordinate.com. "We look forward to this partnership and to partnerships with other key intranet developers that will further position StreetTalk as the directory of choice for a full range of intranet applications."

Multi-Year Joint Development Partnership

As a result of this partnership, both companies will actively develop and integrate StreetTalk technology for intranet messaging. The bi-directional nature of this agreement ensures that both companies will have timely and complete access to all new features and functionality. Coordinate.com will continue core development for StreetTalk and will focus on partnering with other developers for other intranet services, such as Electronic Commerce, firewalls, web servers, communications and authentication and access servers, to move StreetTalk forward as the preferred directory solution for intranet use. Software.com will focus on enhancing StreetTalk for intranet messaging.

For intranet users, this partnership delivers the assurance of an open, standards-based messaging environment that embraces the three most critical components of a highly reliable messaging system Software that provides an electronic mail delivery system. It is made up of the following functional components, which may be packaged together or independently.

StreetTalk, InterMail, Post.Office, and BeyondMail will fully support LDAP, which is emerging as the industry standard for directory services on the Internet.

StreetTalk Integration with InterMail and Post.Office

The development work to integrate StreetTalk with InterMail and Post.Office will be done by Software.com. Post.Office runs across 12 operating system platforms and is localized for worldwide use. InterMail is highly complementary with Post.Office. Together they provide a seamless solution in the messaging server market for organizations and departments of all sizes.

Integration with StreetTalk's proven scalability and replication capabilities will greatly reduce administration needs and lower the cost of maintaining global mail networks. StreetTalk's full-featured enterprise-level directory will also synchronize intranet directories enterprise-wide.
