Coopers & Lybrand L.L.P. Examines Intermind Communicator Subscriber Practices and Attests to Intermind's User Privacy and Anonymity Declarations; The Big 6 Firm Has Evaluated Intermind's Back-end Processes That Support Subscriber Anonymity.

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 1997--Intermind Corporation announced today that Coopers & Lybrand L.L.P. has evaluated and tested the internal controls that support Intermind Communicator subscriber privacy and has attested to Intermind's assertions of user anonymity.

The Big 6 firm has reviewed Intermind's security, technical and operational controls in place that are designed to ensure anonymity of subscriber identity. These controls include network firewalls, encryption, and logical and database security.

Last October Intermind released its first product, Intermind Communicator, a push technology that has achieved unprecedented acceptance in the market and allows anyone to anonymously (if they choose) select and subscribe to Verb 1. subscribe to - receive or obtain regularly; "We take the Times every day"
subscribe, take

buy, purchase - obtain by purchase; acquire by means of a financial transaction; "The family purchased a new car"; "The conglomerate acquired a new company";
 specific information from various Web sites, and automatically receive notification of any updates to those interest areas -- right inside their browser.

"More people are concerned these days about revealing their personal information over the Internet," said Stan Lepeak, program director with the Meta Group. "On the one hand, the openness of the Internet is great; on the other, it potentially leaves the door wide open for people to abuse the privacy rights of individuals.

"Approaches like Intermind's, which retains the subscriber's anonymity, can work well for both parties. Users can remain anonymous if they choose and still get the information they need, while publishers can deliver specific information to a targeted audience and receive valuable and honest feedback from their subscribers."

Intermind Communicator's integrated Measurement and Feedback System enables Web publishers to gain invaluable insight on their subscribers' interests while protecting individual anonymity. When publishers create Web channels using Intermind Communicator, their subscribers' activity generates a variety of reports that detail their interests and reactions to their channel content, while retaining user anonymity.

These Measurement and Feedback System reports will give publishers valuable insight on their visitors by answering questions like: "How many people am I reaching? Who are they? What is important to them? What channels and topics are most effective?" Publishers can access their reports online through Intermind Communicator at any time.

"Intermind's retention of Coopers & Lybrand to report on the Communicator's anonymity feature is indicative of the company's commitment to fostering trust and confidence between Web publishers and users," said Russell J. Sapienza Jr., partner of Coopers & Lybrand's Internet Assurance Services Assurance services have been defined by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) as 'Independent Professional Services that improve information quality or its context'.  Practice.

"Intermind is the first `push' technology company to receive our examination opinion. Privacy continues to be a key concern for many individual and organizational users and the Intermind Communicator is an effective means for users to retain anonymity."

Intermind's enhancement to the Web has rallied support from a diverse collection of publishers using Intermind Communicator to create channels and establish a two-way relationship with their audience.
