Cooperative Electronic Medical Information Network creates partnership between four major healthcare coverage providers.


NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 8, 1996--Primary care physicians and specialists in the Northeast who treat patients covered by CIGNA CIGNA CG (Connecticut General Life Insurance Company) INA (Insurance Company of North America)  Healthcare, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Shield A US not-for-profit health care insurer that is a reimbursement intermediary for physicians. "The four payers will now provide electronic access for patient eligibility and referral authorization, and provide that information directly and electronically to participating physicians or medical offices," explained Fred Goad, Chairman and Co-CEO of ENVOY-NEIC. The system operates through a single point-of-service device, similar to a credit card terminal Several types of credit card terminals are available to merchants nowadays. "Northeast Networked" is available initially in New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
, New Jersey and Connecticut. Selected physicians in the initial roll-out of the program will be provided with the new service at no charge. As the program grows, it is anticipated it will be offered in other states in the Northeast.
