Cooperation increases recycling options. (Municipal Recycling).


Intergovernmental and private business cooperation is the key to a new regional residential recycling drop-of program in Rock Island County, Illinois Rock Island County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. As of 2000, the population was 149,374. Its county seat is Rock Island, Illinois6. It is one of the four counties that make up the Davenport-Moline-Rock Island Metropolitan Statistical Area. .

Beginning in March 2003, five new drop-off sites hosted by the communities of East Moline East Moline (mōlēn`), city (1990 pop. 20,147), Rock Island co., NW Ill., a suburb of Moline, on the Mississippi River; inc. 1907. East Moline, along with Moline, Rock Island, and Davenport, Iowa, was formerly regarded as one of the Quad , Moline and Rock Island and administered by the Rock Island County Waste Management Agency (RICWMA) will be available to county residents.

The communities signed an agreement to initiate the regional drop-off recycling collection and processing program in November 2002. RICWMA selected City Carton Recycling, Davenport, Iowa Davenport is a city in the American state of Iowa that borders the Mississippi River. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 98,359. A 2006 estimate tells that the city had grown slightly to 99,514. , to process the collected recyclables.

City Carton Recycling's Quad Cities facility will process, sort and bale the recyclables for shipment to mills throughout the U.S. The increased tonnage is expected to increase jobs at City Carton.

The regional recycling program is anticipated to increase recycling in Rock Island County and to help meet the 25 percent reduction goal set by the State of Illinois. The area recycling rate is estimated at 19 percent currently, RICWMA will administer the program and fund it through a 40-cent per cubic yard solid-waste fee assessed at landfills in Rock Island County.
