Cookson Electronics Launches CE Analytics: A New Industry Resource for Diagnostics Solutions, Analytical Services and Application Expertise.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

FOXBOROUGH, MASS.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 3, 2003

Responding to the electronics and surface finishing Surface finishing is used to describe a number of industrial processes that can be applied to improve the surface of a manufactured item. The major reason to apply these processes is to improve appearance, improve adhesion or ink wettability, corrosion protection, wear resistance and  industries' growing need for qualified analytical resources to help solve specific and complex application problems, Cookson Electronics has launched CE Analytics, a $5 million technology facility staffed with highly skilled scientists and application engineers.

analysis for the development of future technology requirements and to provide solutions to current application challenges. The facility is equipped with advanced instrumentation as well as the industry expertise to analyze a wide range of devices, components and materials, including circuit assemblies, connectors, leadframes, printed wiring boards, semiconductor packages, decorative accessories, functional items and more.

"CE Analytics offers the market a world of analytical solutions in a shrinking universe of resources," said Raymond P. Sharpe, president & CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , Cookson Electronics. "Today, many OEMs, contract manufacturers and surface finishers have fewer in-house resources for testing and analysis as a result of cost-cutting programs.

"So in response, Cookson has bolstered its services by purchasing millions of dollars worth of technology to combine with our process expertise. CE Analytics is a collaboration of innovators, problem solvers and technological resources that can be brought to bear on very specific application issues," Sharpe said.

Sharpe stressed that all work and evaluations are done confidentially and meet customers' proprietary objectives. Whether a company requires a simple elemental analysis Elemental analysis is a process where a sample of some material (e.g., soil, waste or drinking water, bodily fluids, minerals, chemical compounds) is analyzed for its elemental and sometimes isotopic composition.  or comprehensive engineering services, CE Analytics can assist in the following areas:

-- Property Characterization Analysis

-- Surface Analysis

-- Bulk Analysis

-- Performance Measurements

-- Solder solder (sŏd`ər), metal alloy used in the molten state as a metallic binder. The type of solder to be used is determined by the metals to be united. Soft solders are commonly composed of lead and tin and have low melting points. Hard solders (i.  Analysis

Capabilities Beyond Testing

Located in Jersey City, NJ, CE Analytics is staffed with people skilled in the specific disciplines of reliability and failure mode analysis as well as plating who draw on their vast experience electrochemistry electrochemistry, science dealing with the relationship between electricity and chemical changes. Of principal interest are the reactions that take place between electrodes and the electrolytes in electric and electrolytic cells (see electrolysis), as well as the , analytical chemistry analytical chemistry: see under chemistry. , materials science materials science

"CE Analytics is far more than a testing facility -- it's a culmination of our integrated process knowledge," said Sharpe. It's this knowledge combined with a facility filled with advanced equipment that gives us the ability to interpret data and not merely report it. This benefits any customer or potential customer who knocks on our door through quick solutions to a current problem or accurate determination of a product development direction," said Sharpe.

"Last month, we launched our Shared Intelligence program, and CE Analytics is the first of many concrete examples that will support our passion to share our minds, our analytical and testing facilities and our experience to collaborate and solve problems," Sharpe said.
