The sixth annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books will offer a variety of entertainment suitable for every member of the family -- whether it's Shakespearean drama, Hawaiian cuisine, PBS PBS
 in full Public Broadcasting Service

Private, nonprofit U.S. corporation of public television stations. PBS provides its member stations, which are supported by public funds and private contributions rather than by commercials, with educational, cultural,
 children's television characters Barney and Cassie or Marvel comic book hero Spiderman.

The festival will be held on the UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University)
UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
 campus from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 29.

Stage performances are free and do not require tickets for admission. On-campus parking is available for $6. The Festival of Books -- one of the nation's premier public literary festivals -- was created in 1996 by The Times to promote literacy, celebrate the written word, and bring together those who create books with the people who love to read them. It is presented in association with UCLA.

Saturday -- Renowned expert in the field of mind-body medicine Deepak Chopra ("How to Know God: The Soul's Journey into the Mystery of Mysteries"); Edgar Award-winning author James Patterson ("1st to Die"); the creator of the HBO Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO)
A form of oxygen therapy in which the patient breathes oxygen in a pressurized chamber.

Sunday -- Television and radio hosts Mary Sue Miliken and Susan Feniger ("Cooking with Too Hot Tamales"); National Jewish Book Award-winner Faye Levy ("1,000 Jewish Recipes"); Roy Yamaguchi ("Roy's Feasts from Hawaii"); and Donna Deane ("Modern California Cooking").

Both Days -- Storytelling theater will include "De Colores" by renowned bilingual author, singer and songwriter Jose-Luis Orozco, and award-winning classical storyteller Jim Weiss of Greathall Productions. The stage will also feature Flights of Fantasy, storytelling based on life lessons for children, and "Tell Me a Story," an interactive reading program conducted by AmeriCorps, the country's volunteer domestic Peace Corps.

Saturday -- Readings by actor/author Dom DeLuise ("Charlie the Caterpillar"), Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, author and NBC NBC
 in full National Broadcasting Co.

Diane di Prima was born in Brooklyn and attended Swarthmore College before dropping out to be a poet in Manhattan.

Southern California and major book publishers.


Author panel discussions and lectures are free; however, tickets will be required for admission. Beginning April 22, tickets will be available without charge at all participating Southern California Ticketmaster locations. A limited number of tickets will also be available on-site.

Los Angeles Times Book Prizes

The 21st annual Los Angeles Times Book Prize awards ceremony will be held at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 28, at UCLA's Royce Hall. The Times will present its first Book Prize in the Mystery/Thriller category. Prize-winning author, KCRW-FM commentator and PRI PRI: see Institutional Revolutionary party.

The Los Angeles Times Book Prizes, established in 1980, recognize outstanding literary achievements in nine categories: biography, current interest, history, mystery/thriller, poetry, science and technology, fiction, first fiction, and young adult fiction. Each prize includes a $1,000 cash award.
