With a Dog

   Here he sits
   At my feet,
   Telling me
   It's time to eat.

   His stare is piercing,
   Like a shout,
   Telling me
   He must go out.

   He brings his bone,
   And that's his way
   Of telling me
   He'd like to play.

   His gentle kiss
   Licks my cheek.
   Did someone say
   Dogs cannot speak?
