That works out to about 7 calls per second in a highly-complex and integrated telecom networking environment assembled by Convergys for this event in less than 72 hours. The telethon raised millions of dollars for the victims and their families. Convergys volunteers took pledges that ranged from $5 to thousands of dollars. Often, the callers were making their pledges through tears. The total amount of money raised by the event will not be announced until later this week.
