Convergent Media Systems, the leading provider of digital network solutions, today announced that it has been selected by GlobalShop 2004, the largest annual store design and in-store marketing exhibition in the world, as the sole sponsor and provider of networked digital signage Digital signage is a form of out-of-home advertising in which content and messages displayed on an electronic screen, or digital sign, can be changed without modification to the physical sign, typically with the goal of delivering targeted messages to specific locations at  for this year's show.

With the focus of GlobalShop 2004 on the latest trends in display and design, one of the top trends is the use of digital signage to reach customers in the stores through dynamic, personalized per·son·al·ize

visuals. Networked digital signage delivers messages at the point of decision that can be targeted based on time of day, current weather conditions, demographics, etc. Promoting this trend, GlobalShop will utilize Convergent's digital signage network to broadcast up-to-date news throughout this year's three-day show.

"GlobalShop recognizes that digital signage is the next 'big thing' in the retail industry and we needed a provider who could demystify de·mys·ti·fy

Expositions, producer of GlobalShop. "Convergent was the only company that could deliver the full spectrum of onsite digital signage capabilities we needed, from the show floor displays to dynamic content production to the backend network. Convergent's approach is also more user-friendly for our attendees who are not technologists; once they see the digital signage in operation they realize the 'stop 'em in their tracks' appeal that this new medium brings to shoppers."

"Retailers and brand marketers coming to GlobalShop will discover a whole new way to enhance the customer's in-store experience resulting in longer shopping times and bigger baskets of goods," said Rick Hutcheson, vice president, marketing for Convergent. "The fact that Convergent provides the soup-to-nuts solution sets us apart from other vendors whose piecemeal piecemeal

Digital Signage "Hottest Display" at GlobalShop

Also known as "captive audience networks" and "narrowcasting Narrowcasting has traditionally been understood as the dissemination of information (usually by radio or television) to a narrow audience, not to the general public. Some forms of narrowcasting involve directional signals or use of encryption. ," retailers, store designers and brand marketers are just beginning to tap into the capabilities that networked customizable digital signage can provide. They can stimulate sales at the point of decision and build brand awareness through high-impact images, while adding an element of fun to customers' shopping experiences. Trade association Point-of-Purchase Advertising International (POPAI POPAI Point-Of-Purchase Advertising International ) shows that specific brands advertised on digital signs realize up to 30% increase in sales.

Throughout GlobalShop 2004, Convergent will showcase its digital signage and its complete broadcast network capabilities. A first for GlobalShop, the show daily news, GlobalShop Today will be re-purposed by the onsite Convergent production team for plasma screens located throughout the exhibit floor. Behind-the-scenes a producer, content director, content developers, scheduling manager and a distribution manager will track the daily stories and events, and create dynamic digital signage Digital signage is the generic name for any electronic signage from monocolor LED to full video screen. Dynamic Digital Signage is the generic name for digital signage that works dynamically with a server/client infrastructure that enables the user to schedule any possibility from  to broadcast timely updates.

In essence, the Convergent team will run much like a daily news show, broadcasting text and images of the news of the day, as well as an up-to-the-minute ticker of events, seminars, special award ceremonies, schedule changes, etc. GlobalShop attendees will see the show news delivered on four 50" Sony screens at the entrances to the Venetian/Sands Expo Center complimented with two additional 42" Sony screens in the show dining area broadcasting via Convergent's digital signage network.

Convergent - Only Total Solution for Digital Signage

Convergent is the only digital signage network that offers a total solution - from design of creative content to installation, operation and maintenance of the network. This "one stop shop" provides forward-thinking retailers an easy-to-implement solution for broadcasting in-store, point-of-decision advertising, including offers, tips, specials, sales and other promotional information. Studies show that consumers viewing digital signs in stores are five to 10 times more likely to notice dynamic media than static media, and are two to five times more likely to recall the advertising message.

For example, retailers can use digital signage to move inventory by changing content to reflect weather conditions, updating displays to promote jackets, boots, tank tops and other seasonal merchandise. Plasma screens can be placed at a grocery store isle end-cap to display sale items as well as grab the customer's attention with news and information at the checkout line.

Networked digital signage is made possible by Convergent's expertise in digital content development, integration of hardware and software thorough partnerships with industry leaders Sony, Cisco Systems “Cisco” redirects here. For other uses, see Cisco (disambiguation).
