Convergent Media Systems Corporation today announced it has completed installation of equipment for a new video channel on the Government Education & Training Network (GETN GETN Government Education and Training Network ), bringing the satellite-based system to 38 broadcast channels available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

From a satellite uplink at Fort Lee, Va., the new channel supports Army National Guard educational and resource programming, not only for its own service members, but also "shared use" programming for federal, state and local agencies.

During fiscal year 2002, the Army National Guard produced and disseminated about 120 programs for military and civil service agencies through GETN, doubling the number of programs delivered in the previous year. Topics included Bio-terrorism, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD WMD

The inaugural broadcast, "Identifying and Preserving Weapons of Mass Destruction Evidence," is scheduled for September 25, 2002. Army National Guard officials expect over 3500 viewers at 300+ GETN sites across all 50 states to participate in this program.

Convergent Media, AT&T's service partner for operating and maintaining GETN, redesigned and upgraded the original GETN network in 2000, and continues to install new sites, and operate and manage all GETN broadcast programming. Convergent also supports and maintains all 15 GETN satellite uplink transmission locations and more than 1250 downlink sites.

The network expansion allows the Army National Guard more capacity and flexibility to meet the increased demand for specialized programming, of high interest across many government organizations. "With a high-bandwidth satellite signal, we can provide full-screen, full-motion video Video transmission that changes the image 30 frames per second (30 fps). Motion pictures are run at 24 fps, which is the minimum frequency required to eliminate the perception of moving frames and make the images appear visually fluid to the eye.  to all program participants," according to according to
