Convera and WordWave Partner to Deliver Searchable Streaming Media Solution; WordWave to Integrate Convera Screening Room into its Video Indexing Service.

Business Editors/Hi-Tech Writers

BOSTON & VIENNA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 5, 2001

Convera (Nasdaq:CNVR CNVR Conveyor ), a leading provider of advanced technologies, products and solutions for unlocking the value in digital content, and WordWave, Inc., a global leader in digitized information transcription and searchable multimedia for the Internet, today announced that they have entered into a strategic licensing agreement to support WordWave's new searchable closed-captioned streaming media See streaming audio, streaming video and digital media hub.  service.

In October 2000, WordWave announced a new Communications Division dedicated to providing content owners with a complete outsourced solution for captioning streaming media and making it easily searchable on the Web.

WordWave's new service will use Convera Screening Room to capture, archive and index digital video assets, then automate the process of synchronizing the video clips with the closed captions produced by WordWave's VITAC closed captioning division.

Screening Room's unique concept searching capability will be used to enable end users to search across the closed captioned text associated with each video clip. Unlike other offerings that generate closed-captioning automatically with speech-to-text technology, WordWave uses humans to produce the closed-captioned transcripts, providing greater accuracy for searching.

"After evaluating potential digital asset management partners to make our Video Indexing service possible, Screening Room was the clear choice for us," said Lisa Censullo, chief technology officer, WordWave.

"We needed a technology that is easy to use and learn, can process searches quickly over multiple servers, and, most importantly Adv. 1. most importantly - above and beyond all other consideration; "above all, you must be independent"
