Attendees at the black-tie-optional gala (cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.) can expect to see "an oral history video of some of the oldest living Florida's First as they tell of their personal experiences and struggles and receive a first edition copy of the history book after it is unveiled. After dinner, the celebration will end with dancing to one of the most prolific bands around, The George Tandy Band," said McKinney, chair of the event that carries out the vision of Chief Justice Peggy Quince Peggy A. Quince (born 1948) has been a Justice of the Florida Supreme Court since 1999. She is the first African-American woman to sit on the state's highest Court and the third female Justice. From 1993 to 1997 she served as a judge on Florida's Second District Court of Appeal. .

The unveiling of the book that profiles 273 first black lawyers--Florida's First Black Lawyers 1869--1979--"is an occasion that will document what we have accomplished in identifying the legends and their stories. Each of us, however, to some degree has played a part in that journey. To that extent, it is a celebration for us all," Munson said.
